Now apply for ATLAS VO (Virtual Organization) membership; This is done through the ATLAS IAM (Identity and Access Management) portal as described below.
Get a user grid certificate and load it into your web browser as described in the previous section. If your certificate was from CERN, the help section on that page will also tell you how to install it on your browser.
Go to this URL with your Browser. https://atlas-auth.cern.ch
(You may see this box to select a certificate, select the user grid certificate which you loaded. )
This is what you will see next. As a new user, click on “Apply for an account” button.
That will bring you to the login page where you should sign in with your username and password (SSO).
The registration page will now allow you to check and complete your personal information as shown in the image below. You will need to write some text (anything !) in the “Notes” section and then click on the “Register” button.
Once you click on “Register” you should see this “submitted successfully” message on your browser:
Next, look for an email where you will have to click on a link to confirm your registration request; it should be like this:
After you click on that link, the browser should show that your confirmation was successful and that it now awaits approval:
Once the registration has been approved, you will receive another email like this; go to the next section then.
Go to this URL with your Browser. https://atlas-auth.cern.ch/login
You will see the image below. Sign in with your CERN SSO (username and password). Note that you must have the user grid certificate at the bottom of the page as shown in this image (it should say it is not linked if you are a new user or if you are an existing user, it should just have the credentials displayed).
This will bring you to a detailed page where you can modify your account. Click on the “Link Certificate” button as shown:
and confirm:
Finally add the groups or roles you need to join through the button show below.
Most countries have a code; e.g. /atlas/ca
, /atlas/usatlas
, etc. These will allow write access to LOCALGROUPDISK resources (grid storage meant for use by members of that country’s institutions.) Or, if in the future, you need additional roles for production or physics groups, this is the link to request them. As a new user, request only the minimal (i.e. /atlas/<your institution country code>
). These requests will also have to be approved by the managers.
